Classic Baby Shower Games
When planning a baby shower keep in mind that it
has to be fun in order for it to be a success. One essential piece
of the fun is playing games. Keep your guests entertained with
classic games such as Diaper Pin or Candy in a Bottle.
Diaper Pin
As each guest arrives, pin a diaper pin to them. Each time someone
says the word "baby", the guest that catches them, gets
the other person's baby pin. The person with the most diaper pins
wins.
Naming Baby
Material Needed: paper, pensils, magazine or something
hard to write on.
Announce a category of names with a particular ending such as "en",
"y", "er", "ie", "a",
"ine/een/ene". Set the timer for two minutes for each
name ending. Each guest should write down as many names as they
can think of in that time. You may give prizes out for each category
or for the total cumulative score.
Candy in a Bottle
Fill a new baby bottle with gummy bears, jelly beans, or
another colorful candy. Be sure to count the pieces as you fill
the bottle. Have the guests guess the number
of pieces. Whoever is closest wins. After the game is over, give
the bottle to the new mother.
Diaper Mittens
Material Needed: large baby doll, 1 cloth diaper, 2 diaper pins,
1 pair of mittens, stopwatch or watch with second hand.
Guests take turns diapering the doll while wearing mittens. Hilarious!
Whoever is fastest wins.
Dice in a Bottle
Material Needed: 2 dice, baby bottle, empty plastic baby wipe container with
the top off, wrapped prizes in the center of the room.
Games is timed for ten minutes. Everyone sits in a circle and
takes turns shaking the dice in the bottle and throwing them into
the baby wipe container. If a guest throws doubles, they get a
prize from the center of the room.
After all the prizes are gone, dice winners take prizes from
the other winners. When the ten minutes is up, whoever has a prize
gets to keep it
Baby Dimensions
Material Needed: a full roll of toilet paper.
Tell each guest to tear off as long a section as they want without
telling them what it is for. Ask the Mother of Honor to stand
up and hold the toilet paper as you roll it around her waist measuring
the circumference.
Compare the length of mom and baby to the toilet paper length
of all the guests. Whoever is closest wins.
Musical Present
Wrap the present in many layers of pink and blue gift paper. Have the guest
assemble into a circle. Have some lullaby music in the CD player.
Have the guest start passing around the present.
As each lullaby ends, the guest holding the present should open
up one layer of wrapping paper. Whoever opens the last layer wins
and gets to keep the present.
Memory
Material Needed: Gather 15 to 20 baby items such as a pacifier,
nipple, Q-tip, rattle, bottle. Also, get a tray, cloth, paper,
pencils, magazine or something to write on.
Place all the items on the tray and cover it with a cloth. Everyone
gathers around the tray. Uncover it. Set the timer for two minutes
and have each guest memorize what is on the tray.
They are not allowed to make any notes. Cover the items back
up and have each player write down as many of the baby items as
they can remember. Whoever remembers the most wins.
Variation:
Instead of the tray, fill a pillowcase with the baby items. Pass
the bag around to each guest and give them 30 seconds to feel
what is in the bag. Then, they should write down everything they
think they felt in the bag
Diaper Gag Gift
Purchase oversized paper napkins for each guest. Fold them diagonally
and place a few chocolates in each napkin. Fold the corners up
and tie with a pretty bow.
Microwave just one of the packages for a minute to melt the chocolate.
Add all the "diaper" napkins to a basket for the guests
to pick from. One lucky guest will get the "messy" one!
Sticker Prize
Prior to the guest arriving, place a cute baby sticker underneath
one plate or saucer.
After everyone is done with refreshments, tell them to look underneath
their plate. Whoever has the sticker wins.
Birthday Closest to Baby's
As each guest arrives, ask them the month and day of their birthday.
Whoever has the birthday closest to the baby's due date (or actual
birth date if the baby has already been born) wins.
In the case of a tie:
If two or more guest tie on a game, but there is only one prize
to give out, have them pick a number between 1 and 100. Whoever
is closest to the number you are thinking wins.
