Product Description
When a bus driver takes a break from his route, a very unlikely volunteer springs up to take his place-a pigeon! But you've never met one like this before. As he pleads, wheedles, and begs his way through the book, children will love being able to answer back and decide his fate. In his hilarious picture book debut, popular cartoonist Mo Willems perfectly captures a preschooler's temper tantrum.

Great read for young kids
Both my five year old kinder and two year old love this book. Well illustrated and funny enough for an adult to enjoy reading! Recommended.
Don't let the child miss this book!
This simply phrased, simply illustrated, large-typeface children's picture book has been a hit with pre-readers and early elementary students, alike. In this 40-page, Caldecott Honor tale, less than 20 pages have words (then only one brief phrase or sentence) and the rest are simply-drawn pictures of Pigeon in various stages of frustration and elation. The book's conversational note gives very young children the feeling of being "in charge" of the story's outcome. Willems' Pigeon repeatedly asks early readers to give him permission to drive a bus. Willems, through his inventive artwork and reader-directed phrasing, has strategically given the young reader the authority and desire to answer "no" to Pigeon's requests, (usually aloud!) The book ends when Pigeon has a tantrum from having his bus-driving dreams thwarted by the young reader. He pouts, then notices a semi-tractor trailer sitting empty. He re-directs his dreams to that of driving a big truck, giving young readers both a lesson in not giving up on one's goals, and in understanding that being told "No" is sometimes in their own best interest.
Great interactive book to share with younger kids
My kids loved this book. My five year old would read it to my three year old and they just roll over laughing! You can make this book very interactive with the kids. Very easy to read. Not a bedtime story book because the kids have so much fun answering the pigeon.
Best Read-Aloud Book for Any Age
This is the best read-aloud book for any age! A pigeon wants to drive the bus soooo badly that he will do anything to get the keys from you:-) Who can't relate to wanting something badly and not being allowed to have it just yet ? You can role-play while reading and have the best time with your child! And don't be shy, use your voice, face and body freely to bring the pigeon to life and you will be amazed at how much fun you had!
Hysterical interactive book!
We checked this one out from the library and my 4 year old LOVED it. You know a book is good when your kid talks about it long after it's been checked back into the library. Imagine my surprise when I looked it up on amazon and found that this simple cute little book had created such a stir.
Most people love this book. I can see why. It's totally lovable and hysterical. I think the target age group is preschoolers - kids that know a little about right and wrong and have a sense of humor. I think some of the negative reviews come from parents who tried to read it to a young toddler. These parents might feel that the book is encouraging the type of whining and wheedling behavior that we all try to actively discourage. But the older kids "get" that the pigeon is being obnoxious and they have a great time telling him NO! It's also really a neat little lesson about how to do the right thing.
The drawings are simple, the story is simple, but it's a fun one! Check it out at the library before you buy it just to make sure you aren't one of the few that will hate this book!
